Tanzania & Kenya – The Great Migration

The Great Migration is the largest mass movement of land mammals on Earth, with more than a million wildebeest, along with hundreds of thousands of zebras and gazelle, circling through the Serengeti plains in Tanzania and Masai Mara Reserve in Kenya. The migration occurs throughout the year, with the herds following the rain in a clockwise direction around Tanzania’s Serengeti National Park and Kenya’s Maasai Mara Game Reserve. The best time to witness this awe-inspiring spectacle is generally from July to September, when the herds are crossing the Mara River.

Our Tour will begin in Zimbabwe where we will visit the magnificent Victoria Falls. Our walk alongside the waterfall often requires wet weather gear as the spray from the roar of the water falling below sprays up to 30 metres into the sky. There will be the option to enjoy a short helicopter flight over the falls where you are able to view the massive amount of water that surrounds the falls and creates this spectacular view.

A short drive will take us over into Botswana to visit Chobe National Park. Home to over 120,000 elephants. One of the largest populations in Africa. Chobe National park sits alongside the river which is home to hundreds of hippos that regularly wander and spend their day feeding and bathing.

From Botswana we will travel to Tanzania to experience the Migration and the hundreds of Wildebeest that cross the river from Tanzania into Kenya. This sight is spectacular but not something you always get to see. Given the amount of crocodiles in the river the Wildebeest become very cautious in their approach to the river and often spend hours contemplating the crossing. Once one brave soul crosses the rest follow in a rush but please note it is a game of patience as we wait for this to happen.
