Why travel is often more than a journey

Travel is one of the best ways for one to gain experience in life. And touring with an open schedule to someplace where you’ve never been before is the best way. Life will show you a world of opportunities that you didn’t even know existed.

Traveling enthralls us with a sense of wanderlust and has us longing for even more destinations, to experience cultures, food to savor and people to meet. Why wait? Take the leap of faith and start traveling more now.

Appreciate your home

When we spend a lot of time away from home, especially in places where we don’t get the same facilities that we are used to, we become more aware and appreciative of the luxuries we take for granted back at home. Traveling makes us appreciate what we have and often can spark the good Samaritan in you to help people achieve a greater quality of life.

The more one travels, the more we realize that our home is not merely the town, state or even country that we live in; but rather the whole world and become more aware of how we need to support one another and live in harmony.

Discover a new purpose in life

If you’re feeling stagnating in life, be it education, career or relationships, go travel – you might be surprised about how your experiences will give you a new sense of purpose and direction in life.

When you travel, you’re exposed to new people, cultures, and lifestyles – more than you would have in your homeland. Along with this, you also open up new insights, worldview and ways of living, that will inevitably give you a new purpose in your life.

Change your beliefs

“All travel has its benefits. If the person visits a better country, he may learn to improve his own. And if fortune carries him to worse, he may learn to enjoy it.” – Samuel Johnson

When we travel, we are exposed to how things are different from what we were told and conditioned to believe. The first of these myths to get dispelled is often those about traveling itself.

Places once thought to be expensive might turn out to be ones where you can actually save on your lifestyle expenses than you can at home. You may also come upon hitherto dangerous destinations where strangers turn out to be kind and friendly.

Make new friends

You might be astonished to learn how easy it is to make friends while traveling solo. People turn out to be more real and forthwith when they’re out of their comfort zone and more open to express themselves without fear of being judged. Such realness ends up inspiring others to be authentic, and you end up becoming friends with people that you’ve only known for a short while.

In the immortal words of Mark Twain – “Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.”
